Steven Mark Hutchason
May 17, 1955 – September 27, 2026
Steven Mark Hutchason passed away on September 27, 2026, at the age of 71, leaving behind a large family, countless stories, and a life that cannot easily be summed up in a few paragraphs.
Steven was the son of the late Paul Hutchason and Nancy Gill (Hutchason). He is survived by his siblings, Paula Hileman, Debra Hutchason, and Greg Hutchason.
He was the father of Melissa Hutchason, Stacy Hutchason, Steven Hutchason , Steven Hutchason Jr. , Serina Thomas and Brock Dischler. His family grew over the years to include 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, leaving behind generations who will carry pieces of his story forward.
Steven proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Later, he made his living doing something that suited him well: working with his hands. He became a roofing contractor and owned Hutch’s Roofing, building his business through years of hard work, skill, and experience.
Steven loved being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, nature walks, riding motorcycles, and simply being surrounded by nature. He was happiest when he could work with his hands, fix something, build something, or figure out how something worked.
Anyone who knew Steven also knew he could talk.
He was social, outgoing, charismatic, and a jokester with a larger-than-life personality. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone and rarely ran out of stories to tell. His fishing stories were especially memorable, although exactly how big those fish really were may depend on which version of the story you heard.
Steven lived a complicated life. There were difficult chapters, struggles, and choices along the way. Some of the ways he chose to live ultimately took a toll on his health and contributed to his death. His family does not need to erase those parts of his story in order to love him or mourn him.
Because a person’s life is rarely just one thing.
Steven could be complicated and still be loved. He could make mistakes and still create beautiful memories. He could struggle and still make people laugh. His choices were part of his story, but they were never the entirety of the man.
At his heart, Steven was a family man. Family mattered to him, even when life and relationships weren’t always simple.
After Steven’s passing, his family discovered more keys than anyone could possibly explain. What they all opened may remain one of his final mysteries. Somehow, it feels fitting for a man who left behind so many stories, memories, and a few unanswered questions.
Steven’s life was adventurous, complicated, imperfect, funny, hardworking, and entirely his own.
Steven’s life ended on September 27, 2026, but his memories did not.
It continues through his children, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family and friends, and through the stories that will continue to be told about him.
Rest peacefully, Dad. We hope the fish are huge, the roads are endless, and somewhere along the way you’ve finally figured out what all those keys were for.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Steven Hutchason asks that you consider planting a tree in their memory.
