Americo Rosa Barreto
Americo "Mikey" Barreto
Americo Rosa Barreto, known to his family and friends as “Mikey,” passed away on September 3, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on February 22, 1962, in Brooklyn, New York, Mikey lived in New Jersey before moving to Florida in 1986 and eventually settling in Central Florida.
Mikey was a skilled tradesman whose career reflected his ability to work with both his hands and his mind. He trained in culinary arts and construction. He spent a significant portion of his career as a chef before moving into construction, where he took great pride in his work, including projects at Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee, Florida, and the construction of the Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Mikey loved to build things and was exceptionally good at mathematics. His varied career and interests reflected a man who knew how things worked and had the ability to create, repair, and solve problems with his own hands.
He is survived by his mother, Ana R. Ortiz; his daughter, Kristeya, and grandchildren, Bradley and Cordelia; his sister Evelyn, her husband Adam, and their son Nicholas; his sister Virginia, her husband Hayden, and their children Liliana, Hayden, Rebekah, and Gabriela; and his brother, Juan Ortiz.
Mikey was preceded in death by his son, Vincent Allen Barreto, 35, who passed away one week before him.
