Ruth Ann Lindgren, 77, of Story City, Iowa, died peacefully on September 30, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 2, 1949, on a farm outside Roland, Iowa, the second of four children of Carl and Evelyn Nyquist.
Ruth married Walter Lindgren in 1971, and together they raised three children on the family farm north of town. For twenty-six years she was the school secretary at Story City Elementary, where she knew every child by name. She sang alto in the choir at First Lutheran Church, kept a vegetable garden that fed half the neighborhood, and never let anyone leave her kitchen without a slice of pie.
She is survived by her children, Karen (Tom) Ellefson, David Lindgren, and Susan (Mark) Holm; seven grandchildren; and her sister, Joan Peterson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, in 2019, and by her parents.
