Melissa was more than a friend. She was family!! She had a rare gift for making people feel loved, supported, and never alone. From our very first day of training together in 2002 until our final conversation on October 7, 2026, she had a way of drawing people in with her warmth, humor, and genuine spirit. During our townhall meeting on October 7, Melissa appeared on camera with a hilarious photo of our director sporting a man bun, making us all laugh. She was full of life, laughing, joking, and bringing joy to everyone around her. After the meeting, we talked and laughed about it together, never could I have imagined that it would be our last conversation. To understand who Melissa was, I often think back to one of the most difficult times in my life. When my grandmother passed away unexpectedly, I was sitting in the hospital saying goodbye. I had just accepted a position on Melissa's team but had not yet fully transitioned. Before she was ever my manager, she was my friend, and she showed me the depth of her heart. She sent flowers and cards to myself and for the family the days after. That same day she sat with me on the phone while I grieved, crying with me with me through my loss. Her compassion and kindness gave me strength when I needed it most. That same love extended to my wife, whom Melissa always lifted up in prayer and cared for as if they had known each other forever. Each time I was in the hospital with my wife or wasn't feeling well she would call or text and check on her and myself. She never made any conversation about her, it was always about the person she was chekcing on or speaking to. That was Melissa. She showed up for people. She loved deeply, cared selflessly, and made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Melissa, thank you for your friendship, your love, and your unwavering support. We will miss you dearly, cherish your memory always, and never forget the light and love you brought into our lives.

Melissa was the beloved wife of Jerrylee Alderman and a devoted mother to Brandt Miller (Marisa), Sadie-Lynn Smith (Blake), Jake Ellerman (Lilyanna), and Tiffany Ward (Nathan). Above all, she treasured her role as a Mamaw to her five beloved grandchildren, Easton, Ensley, Lily, Chance, and Jasper, as well as multiple due in the next few months, whom she loved dearly and took great joy in spoiling.
Melissa had a special love for life on her farm, where she found happiness in gardening, her horses, as well as any other animal she could find and care for. These simple pleasures reflected her love of nature, animals, and the life she worked so hard to build. She especially loved planning holidays, birthdays, family gatherings, and special events, always finding ways to make those moments extra special for the people she loved. Bringing her family together was one of the many ways she showed her love, and the memories she created will be treasured for generations to come.
Melissa had a strong and unwavering Christian faith that was an important part of who she was. She carried her faith in her heart and found comfort and strength in her relationship with God. Her creativity and passion for making celebrations unforgettable led her to own The Oak n Arrow, her own event planning business, where she helped bring special events to life. She also dedicated 24 years of service to UnitedHealthcare, a testament to her commitment and dedication throughout her professional life.
Melissa is also survived by her loving parents, Stewart and Debbie Cooper, and her brother, Jeff Cooper (Ashley), many nieces and nephews, along with extended family members and many dear friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.
