John E Carson

Jul 15, 1960 - Oct 12, 2026
Olive Branch, MS

John Edwin Carson was a lifelong resident of Olive Branch, Mississippi, a place he was proud to call home. Born July 15, 1960, John grew up in Olive Branch and graduated from Olive Branch High School. He had a deep love for his hometown, his home state, and the land he spent his life enjoying.

John was a jovial, outgoing man who knew how to have a good time. From his younger days through adulthood, he was blessed with a close circle of friends and a lifetime of adventures. He lived a colorful life, especially in his youth, and his children grew up entertained by stories of his wild escapades and the good times he shared with friends. Those stories, often filled with laughter and a little mischief, will undoubtedly be told for years to come.

An electrician by trade, John was an outdoorsman at heart. He was happiest in the woods behind his home, on Arkabutla Lake, or working in his ridiculously large garden. A passionate hunter and skilled fisherman, John had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and all that nature had to offer. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and his hound dogs. The woods and the water were where he felt most at home, and he never needed much of an excuse to spend a day enjoying either.

John was also a lifelong football fan and a loyal supporter of the Ole Miss Rebels. He especially enjoyed talking football and comparing statistics with his son, Jake, a shared passion that gave them plenty to discuss over the years. Beyond his love for football, some of his proudest moments were spent watching his own children play sports and cheering them on from the sidelines. He took tremendous pride in their accomplishments, both on and off the field, and that pride only grew as they became adults. He was especially proud of his son Jake's service in the United States Marine Corps and his daughter Katie's academic achievements, graduating with honors and pursuing a career in nursing. Watching his children grow, succeed, and build lives of their own brought him his life's greatest happiness.

John was a man of strong opinions and an independent spirit, qualities that became even more apparent in his later years. He could often be set in his ways, but the friendships he built throughout his life remained meaningful. His longtime friends continued to hold a special place in his heart, and their visits and check-ins were a reminder of the many years of friendship and memories they shared.

As his health declined, John's daughter, Katie, became his devoted caregiver and a constant source of support. Through those years, their relationship grew into a particularly close bond, one built on love, trust, and the experience of navigating life's more difficult seasons together. John also found tremendous joy and pride in watching his grandson, Andrew, grow, cherishing the time he was able to spend with him.

John was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his daughter, Katie Hurst, her husband, Drew, and their son, Andrew; his son, Jacob Carson; his mother; and his siblings, along with many friends and loved ones who will carry his memory forward.

John lived a life filled with adventure, laughter, lifelong friendships, and a love for the place he called home. He leaves behind countless stories, cherished memories, and a legacy of enjoying life on his own terms. A believer in Jesus Christ, John has now found eternal peace in his heavenly home with his Lord and Savior. While he will be deeply missed by those who loved him, his family finds comfort in knowing he is home with the Lord.

Celebration of Life details will be announced at a later date.
